Cavesal® headstall

Cavesal® headstall

The Cavesal® is a bridle that can be used for both groundwork and bitless riding. It is a multifunctional bridle.

In 2014, I developed the Cavesal® out of passion and love for horses. Since then, the bridle has proven itself to be a multifunctional tool, and we have received excellent reviews from all over the world.

The great advantage of the Cavesal® is that you only need one bridle for everything you want to do with your horse. It is a combination of the "caveson", the "side pull" and the "bosal," which gives you different options for attaching your lead rope, lunge, or reins, depending on what you want to do with your horse. You can use it for leading, lunging, groundwork, and riding.

The Cavesal® is primarily used for the Basic work in both groundwork and riding.

The Cavesal® for groundwork:

  • Behind Noseband (Bosal function): At the bottom of the Cavesal®, there is a "behind noseband" with two rings. These can be used to lead your horse.
  • Side of the Noseband (Sidepull function): There is one extra ring on both the left and right sides.
  • On the Noseband, there are three rings attached:
    • The middle ring is used for lunging and groundwork in the focus position.
    • The outer rings of the noseband (Cavesson function) are used for groundwork.

The Cavesal® as a Bosal for riding:
When riding in foundational work with longer reins and minimal contact with the horse’s head, it is advisable to use the Bosal rings of the Cavesal®. This allows for better positioning and contact on the neck through indirect reins. Excessive contact with the Bosal reins can lock the lower jaw, which is not conducive to relaxation.

The Cavesal® as a Sidepull for riding:
The sidepull can be used when you begin riding with more contact, for example, to perform figures. It’s beneficial when you need more influence on the head during gymnastic work, and it also serves as preparation for riding with the Cavemore.

The Cavesal® as a Cavesson for riding:
The Cavesson is always used in combination with either the Bosal or the Shanks.

The Cavesson improves the flexion of the head to the left or right and is used to lift the head if the horse is carrying it too low.

The Cavesal® is an excellent bridle made of high-quality leather and designed to be functional and adjustable for every horse. It is important to ensure that each individual piece of leather used to assemble the bridle fits your horse's head perfectly. Due to my passion for horses, I have spent years searching for a bridle that can fit any horse or pony, from Shetland ponies to heavy draft horses. There are so many different types of horses, with different noses, heads, sensitivities, and trainers. ;-)

It is essential to understand that even a bitless bridle can cause harm if it does not fit optimally. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the noseband of the Cavesal® has the correct length and position on the nose bone. The noseband can be too high or too low. If it is too long, it will slide too deep on the nose bone, causing discomfort for your horse during groundwork. If it is too high, it can be very irritating to the salivary glands.

However, it is not just the noseband that is important. Each individual piece must fit and have the correct length. Therefore, it is important to measure your horse's head so that we can make the Cavesal® fit perfectly.

How to measure your horse's head when you want to buy a cavesal: go to our webshop and find the picture and the movie to know which sizes to measure.

By taking the above into account, we prevent the Cavesal® from being uncomfortable for:

  • Breathing
  • Salivary glands
  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Neck vertebrae
  • Mobility of the lower jaw
  • Sensitive mouth and nose hair
  • Mouth wounds

Pascale and I are here to help you find the right Cavesal® for your horse so that your horse feels comfortable. We have other options to help you in exceptional cases. If you are unsure, please ask us for advice.
