I designed the Jossy Reynvoet - Neck Rein® to interfere as little as possible with the horse's head, aiming for a 'free' head.
The ergonomically designed Neck Rein is 12 mm thick and semi-flexible. Its shape prevents pressure on the esophagus.
You can purchase the Neck Rein in the "round" shape. You can then manually shape your Neck Rein into a "teardrop shape."
When you use the Jossy Reynvoet - Neck Rein®, you shift the focus away from directly working with the horse’s head (such as through a bit or reins) toward more subtle communication through the neck and the horse's posture. Instead of applying pressure on the head, you focus on influencing the posture of the neck.
The role of the C5 vertebra: The C5 vertebra is located in the middle of the neck and is important for flexion and lateral bending of the neck. By focusing on this area with the Neck Rein, the horse can learn to bend and relax its neck better, which helps achieve proper lateral bending. This is essential for good balance and collection, as a horse that bends well throughout its neck is better able to coordinate its movements from the hindquarters.
Benefits of working without directly influencing the head:
- More natural balance: By leaving the head alone, you prevent the horse from becoming reliant on the reins for balance. The horse learns to carry its head and neck more freely, which relaxes the back and makes movements smoother.
- Self-carriage: The horse develops its own body awareness and balance, leading to a better ability to carry itself instead of leaning on the rider's hand.
- Better collection: Focusing on the C5 and the neck’s flexion helps the horse shift its weight backward, which is crucial for collection and controlled, more powerful movements.
In summary, by using the Jossy Reynvoet - Neck Rein® with a focus on the C5 vertebra, you influence the horse's natural posture and balance without artificially manipulating its head. This can help create a softer, more harmonious partnership between horse and rider, with improved collection as a result.
